A rhythm of fragments, caught in motion.
Murmuration is a modular ceramic composition consisting of hand-glazed triangular tiles. The work was inspired by a walk through the nature reserve De Platwijers, where the artist unexpectedly found herself surrounded by a murmuration of starlings — a hypnotic movement of density and dispersion.
Each tile carries a subtle surface relief, layered with gestural glazes in blue, black and cream tones. Together, the fragments suggest motion: rising, folding and scattering like birds in flight. The pattern is directional, yet open.
The composition responds directly to its environment. First presented outdoors in a natural garden setting, the work allowed the interaction between material, ground and viewer to unfold gently — like a murmuration suspended between stillness and movement.
